Traditional Butt Lift Newport Beach

What is a Traditional Butt Lift? Is it Different than a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Traditional Butt Lift is a surgical skin excision procedure where the excess skin of the buttocks is removed to tighten the buttocks skin. This procedure is completely different from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). A BBL involves liposuction and fat transfer; while a Butt Lift involves removing excess skin.

Who is the typical candidate for a Traditional Butt Lift?

On a rare occasion, there is too much sag that an implant and/or fat grafting can not overcome. This is very similar to the breast when a breast lift is needed. In these instances, a butt lift is performed. In general, this is typically found in patients who have undergone weight loss surgery and lost a significant amount of weight from the surgery (75lbs or more). In these types of patients, buttock sag and excess skin cannot be corrected with fat transfer or implants and skin excision is necessary.

Can a Traditional Butt Lift be Performed without Scars?

A traditional butt lift ultimately treats excess skin by removing the excess skin. However, skin removal requires a scar. The major negatives to a traditional Butt Lift are\:

  1. Scars
  2. Flattening of the Butt

As we tighten the buttocks skin, this causes the butt to flatten and because of this the butt lift may be able to be combined with either fat transfer or an implant. This is very similar to breast surgery when both an implant and a lift are utilized. In this case, the lift tightens the skin and the fat transfer or implant provides the volume. However, just like with the breast there is a limit to how much of a lift and volume augmentation can be performed at the same time.

The patients that benefit most from this type of surgery are those patients who have had rapid weight loss, i.e. surgical weight loss, and the scars are a reasonable trade off to remove the excess skin.

Can a Traditional Butt Lift be Combined with a Tummy Tuck?

Yes! A tummy tuck can and is frequently combined with a traditional butt lift. When these surgeries are combined this is also known as a Circumferential Lift.
