Dr. Matthew J. Nykiel believes an elegant cosmetic result directly correlates with prudent training and precise technique. Therefore, he devoted an extensive amount of time to perfecting his practice. Dr. Nykiel is unique in that he attained a double sub-specialty within Plastic Surgery. This exclusive skill set, only held by a handful of Plastic Surgeons, is how Dr. Nykiel delivers consistent results to satisfied patients every day.

Medical Training:

Dr. Nykiel received his Medical Degree from Indiana University. The need for an artistic eye drew him to Plastic Surgery. After medical school, he was immediately accepted into a sought-after Plastic Surgery Residency in St. Louis. During his residency, Dr. Nykiel’s peers elected him to the Graduate Medical Education Committee where he served to provide oversight for the graduate medical education programs to the University.

Not One… But TWO Sub-Specialties…A Distinction of Only a Handful of Plastic Surgeon

Stanford University:

After completion of his residency, Dr. Nykiel began his first sub-specialty fellowship at Stanford University. While he was there, Dr. Nykiel served as Faculty at Stanford University. During the course of his fellowship, he cultivated his learning of advanced techniques including: complex breast revisions,, breast reconstruction, microsurgery, abstruse facial reconstructionand Fat Grafting.

Cosmetic Fellowship:

Upon finishing at Stanford University, Dr. Nykiel started his second sub-specialty fellowship in Aesthetic & Cosmetic Surgery. He was honored when selected for an American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAP) endorsed Aesthetic/Cosmetic Plastic surgery fellowship at the Plastic Surgery Center in Sacramento under the tutelage of Dr. Scott Green. There are only 14 ASAP endorsed Aesthetic & Cosmetic training programs in the country. This speaks volumes to the caliber of training Dr. Nykiel received in Cosmetic & Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The dedication to further his training in Aesthetic & Cosmetic Surgery at the culmination of his training cannot be underscored; it is above and beyond the medical standard.

Butt Augmentations & Body Contouring

During his time in Sacramento, he learned the intricate details to achieve elegant results in Fat Grafting to the Butt (Brazilian Butt-Lift) and Body Contouring (Liposuction, Tummy-Tuck, Arm-Lift, Body-Lifts etc.). His unique knowledge and training in fat harvest, grafting and survival techniques allowed him to achieve unparalleled results!

Cosmetic Breast Revisions and Reconstruction

Dr. Nykiel spent considerable hours in cosmetic breast surgery. During this time of his ASAPS endorsed Cosmetic sub-specialty fellowship, Dr. Nykiel relied on many techniques and principles he learned at Stanford University when he performed complex reconstructive breast surgery. This allowed him to draw parallels in treatment algorithms and develop treatments for a sub-set of patients he refers to as “cosmetic-reconstruction patients”. These sub-set of patients are individuals requiring difficult cosmetic breast surgical revisions, rare and/or unique cosmetic breast cases.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Finally, Dr. Nykiel dedicated significant time during his ASAPS endorsed Aesthetic & Cosmetic Fellowship to learn the delicate finesse required to achieve a naturally and harmoniously balanced result in Facial Aesthetic Surgery (i.e. Face-Lift, Eye-Lift, Rhinoplasty, Fat Grafting to the Face). At the time of his training, there were 7 different surgeons at the Plastic Surgery Center in Sacramento. The large number of surgeons allowed Dr. Nykiel unique ability to observe the different techniques and subtleties employed by the various facial aesthetic/cosmetic surgeons.Dr. Nykiel also recognized the importance and adjuncts with facial non-invasive procedures: fillers (i.e. Restylane, Juvaderm etc), neuromodulators (i.e. Botox, Dysport etc), and lasers. The diversity empowered Dr. Nykiel to refine his arsenal of techniques for standard primary facial surgery to complex secondary surgery and even difficult revision Facial Aesthetic & Cosmetic cases.

Dr. Matthew J. Nykiel is originally from the Chicago metropolitan area. He comes from a family of five. He has a large extended family that lives throughout the Chicago-land area. His family & extended family is a tight-knit group of individuals that have regular reunions and get-togethers. Dr. Nykiel enjoys spending time with his family and credits them for teaching him the life experiences that have helped shaped him into the compassionate physician he is today.

Dr. Nykiel is happily married. He met his lovely wife in Saint Louis during his residency. The two are expecting the arrival of their first baby, a boy! Dr. Nykiel and his wife are extremely happy to be securing their roots and beginning a family in Southern California.

Matthew J Nykiel, MD believes there is zero substitution for experience and training. Therefore, he chose to become double sub-specialized within Plastic Surgery. Dr. Nykiel spent a year at Stanford University, where he also served on faculty, learning the intricacies of advanced Plastic Surgery techniques to the face, body, and breast. Then, he devoted an entire year to the study of Aesthetic & Cosmetic Surgery for his second sub-specialization. Thus, allowing him to refine his technique, deliver superb results, and position himself as an elite and respected Aesthetic & Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.
